Introduction

The purpose of the Parish Pastoral Council is to consult together and to advise the Parish Priest in planning and organising the spiritual, social and material life of the Parish, and to foster pastoral action throughout the Parish.

Constitution [extract]

"The Council shall be composed of :

  • Ex officio : the Parish Priest who shall be President of the Council.
  • Ex officio : Other clergy of St. John’s Parish.
  • Ex officio : One Sister of the Bath Congregation of La Sainte Union.
  • Ex officio : The Parish Treasurer.
  • One representative each of the Parent Teacher Association of St. John’s Primary School, Bath, and of St. Gregory's Comprehensive School, Bath.
  • One representative of each society or group within the Parish where such representation is thought by a majority of the Council to be appropriate.
  • Eight members elected by the congregation of St. John’s, according to the rules set out in the full constitution.
  • Nominees appointed by the Parish Priest who shall not exceed three in number.
  • Other members may be co-opted by the Council as need arises."

"All members (with the exception of ex officio members) shall serve on the Council for a period of two years. After that they may serve for another two years; but after their second term they shall stand down for at least one year.

Ex officio members shall serve for as long as they hold the office which entitles them to membership.

Those members who are nominated to represent societies or groups in the Parish shall serve on the Council for two years. If any such member is prevented from attending a meeting of the Council, the organisation in question may send another representative to the meeting.

Co-opted members shall serve on the Council for as long as the Council shall decide in each case."
