A brief review of previous events and activities - watch out for new ones!

November 2011		Parish Christmas Fayre fund raising event on 20 November in the parish hall, was a great success. Many came and enjoyed the raffle, tombola, children's activities, crafts, toys, cards, Christmas gifts, Cakes, & much more. A report of the full amount raised will be posted here shortly. Thanks to all who involved, organised, helped and who came!
October 2011		Parish Ramble on 23rd October, leaving from the RSPCA Cats & Dogs Home in Claverton Down, we enjoyed an off-road walk across to Rainbow Woods and back (some 3-4 miles, it took 3 ½ hours), with a stop for refreshments halfway round.
September 2011		Barn Dance / Ceilidh, held on 23 September at St.Gregory's School Hall. This was an excellent evening of music, dance and sociability. Food was provided and a raffle and bar. Thanks to the band and the organisers. The A4 poster / details are here (PDF).
September 2011		Lecture, by Anne Widdecombe, held on 21 September in the Parish Hall. The 'One Year on' lecture was an evening reflecting upon the impact and legacy of the Pope's historic visit. Ann was deeply involved in the media coverage of the visit and was present at some of the events with the Holy Father. Her particular insights allow us to look back as well as reflect upon how that visit has touched our society and our Church.
September 2011		The Farewell Mass & Party for Fr.Tom Gunning, held on 3 September with the party in the Parish Hall following Saturday evening mass, was a great event. A very large gathering of parishioners and those from the wider deanery, as well as other acquaintances from the area, all came to share in this farewell event to wish him well as he moves on to a new parish and a new challenge. Thanks to everyone who assisted with these events. Fr Tom has now moved (on 7 Septermber) to his new post at the Immaculate Conception, Stroud, and we wish him well for settling there. July 2011		Parish Mission /Retreat - a quiet day for all churches together in Bath was organised for Downside Abbey on 16th July. The themes and programme were a talk followed by reflection periods and finishes with mass / collective prayer.
		'Bring & Share Parish Picnic' that followed the 10am Mass on Sunday 3 July, was held at midday in the beautiful Parade Gardens, by the river in the centre of Bath. A good number of parishioners came along with picnics and food to share for an very enjoyable gathering.
May 2011		Wine Tasting event, held on Fri 20 May in the Parish Hall, including a light buffet. Alain from Great Western Wine (Enotria) presented six wines in the £6 - £8 range. Everyone enjoyed a good evening.
		Talk/ Discussion event: on 18 May, on "Liturgy & Vatican II revisited, 50 years on" led by Fr. Fountaine, Diocescan Director of Liturgy. More details here (PDF). In the Parish Hall. Part of the 21st Century Christian Faith series.
		Parish Annual General Meeting, held on Sun 8 May in the Parish Hall after 10am Mass. All members of the parish are always welcome, to come and make your views known. Tea & Coffee was provided. Unfortunately a disappointingly low attendance this time, perhaps due to holidays? The AGM Minutes are here and the 2010 Financial report is here (PDFs).
		Talk: on 6 May, on "South America; Christian Social Teaching" by Fr. Augusto, in the Parish Hall.
Apr 2011		Quiz Night, held on Fri 1 April in the Parish Hall. 9 teams competed, everyone had a very enjoyable evening. Thanks to everyone who helped. After expences and a donation to SS Peter & Paul's (who provided the quiz questions) a profit of £ 266 was made!
Mar 2011		Talk/ Discussion event: on 31 March, [at Prior Park College] on "Go Forth and Set the World on Fire: working with Roma families in Eastern Europe and against human trafficking", Led by Sister Imelda Poole, I.B.M.V. At Prior Park. More details here (PDF).
		Talk/ Discussion event: on 28 March, on "Living the Gospel in today's world: A map from Catholic Social Thought", led by Dr Séverine Deneulin, More details here (PDF). In the Parish Hall.
		Talk/ Discussion event: on 14 March, "Third World Agriculture: is the Christian approach compatible with Western policy?" Led by Rupert Bevan. In the Parish Hall. More details here (PDF).
		Pancake Party (Shrove Tuesday): on 8 March, Pancakes, children's entertainer (Jack Stephens), drinks etc for adults. Once again a great event. In the Parish Hall.
Feb 2011		Talk/ Discussion event: on 16 February, "Love and Stigma, Living without Catholic Social Action" Led by Dr.Derek Indoe (Consultant Clinical Forensic Psychologist. In the Parish Hall. More details here (PDF).
Jan 2011		Talk/ Discussion event: on 24 January, "The Leopard's Spots: Change or Development?" Newman's thoughts on some issues of the day. Led by Father Peter Cornwell, in Parish Hall. The full text of the talk is available here (PDF).
		Talk/ Discussion event: on 10 January,"Benedictine Spirituality" led by Dom David Foster, O.S.B. Prior of Downside Abbey. In the Parish Hall. More details here (PDF).
Nov 2010		Fayre : on 21 November,the "Parish Christmas Fayre" fund raising event, in the church hall, raised around £1,100 for the church maintenance funds, and £200 for FairTrade. There were childrens activities, Tombola, Christmas gifts, Cakes, Tea & coffee and much more! A great event. See photos here.
		Talk/ Discussion event: on 17 November,"Proclaiming the Gospel in an uncertain world" led by Fr Robert King, University of Bristol. In the Parish Hall. More details here (PDF).
Oct 2010		Talk/ Discussion event: on 25 October, 'Science & Religion -are they so different?" led by David Packham, University of Bath. In the Parish Hall. More details here (PDF).
		Quiz Night, held on Fri 22 October in the Parish Hall. Thanks to all who organised this.
		'Mass and Tea in the afternoon' on Thurs 7th October. A celebration of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary; followed by gathering for tea and coffee. Transport was arranged where possible for those unable.
Sept 2010		"TV Documentary Maker Shares Pope’s Vision" talk by Mark Dowd, on Friday 10 September in the church hall. (Details on diocescan website >>)

July 2010		Parish Walk (Ramble): Sun 25th July, leaving from Southstoke village and walking a circular route. All enjoyed another great walk!
		Fayre : on 17-18 July,"Parish Summer Fayre" fund raising event, in and around the church hall. The fayre raised over £700 for the church maintenance funds.
June 2010		Talk/ Discussion event: on 9 June,"Land and of Milk & Honey or Valley of Desolation? – Challenges for Christians in the Holy Land today" by Tom Dunne, in the church hall.
May 2010		Skittles Evening: Sat 15th May, in the Hadley Arms Pub, Combe Down. Great fun.
April 2010		Parish Annual General Meeting: Sun 25th April, in the Parish Hall at 4pm. All welcome, please come and make your views known on the parish.
		Talk/ Discussion event: Wed 21 April, "Render Unto Caesar": led by Giles Mercer, in the church hall, in which he considers the positions of Church and State, particularly in the context of the forthcoming General Election. The full text of the talk is available here (PDF).

March 2010		Lenten Coffee Morning & Lunch, on Fri 19 Mar, in the Parish Hall, supported Faith & Light's work in Africa & Russia.
		The very popular Lenten Weekly reflections by Fr Peter, on “Faith Seeking Understanding" were attended by over 70 people each week. The full text of the talks is now available here (PDF).
		Talk/ Discussion event: on 2 Mar, "Globalisation" by Peter Jenkins and Tina Chang; Discussion followed from the previous session on the environment...
February 2010		Mass with Anointing, with tea and coffee after, on Thu 11 Feb, 2.30pm in St Johns, on the day of our Lady of Lourdes.
		Visit of Bishop Declan Lang to the parish, over the weekend of 13-14 Feb. The bishop celebrated at all 3 Sunday masses, and met parishioners over tea and coffee, and then the PPC members, after the 10am Sunday Mass.
		Quiz Night - returns! with refreshments. Fri 12 Feb, 7.30pm in the Parish Hall. Teams of 6, £3.50 each. Contact Christine 422922 or Michael 444251
January 2010		Talk/ Discussion event: Tues 19 Jan, "The Environment – a Christian Challenge": led by Mary Colwell, Producer of the BBC Natural History Unit, in the church hall. A review of the talk is here...
December 2009		Parish Christmas Coffee Morning & Fayre, on Friday 4 Dec, and some additional sales over the weekend in the church hall.
November 2009		Talk/ Discussion event: on Mon 23 Nov, "The Christian Faith and Human Development", by Professor Tina Beattie. Discussion included the recent papal encyclical Caritas in Veritate, disparities in wealth, short-term economy, attacks on social security systems ... etc.
		The Parish Barn Dance / Ceilidh on 13 November @ St.John's School was attended by over 70 people, young, old and inbetween. It was a great evening of music, dance and socialbility. Don't miss the next one! Photos here shortly...
October 2009		Car Boot & Table Sale - Sat, 3 Oct @ St.John's Church. A good clear out of unwanted belongings.
September 2009		Talk/ Discussion event: Tues 29 Sept, "Christian Faith in the 21st Century: 'Is One Religion as Good as Another?'" by Prof. Gavin D'Costa, University of Bristol.
		The last Summer Concert at St John's, Sun 27 Sept - "The Legend of Finn McCool", narrator Aidan Phippard, with Maggio String Quartet: Irish airs & lively jigs, plus a cream tea. Info here...
		Talk/ Discussion event: Tues 22 Sept, "The Holy Spirit: Who on Earth is She?' by Dom Edmund ffield, O.S.B. Monk of Ampleforth.
